For We Worked For This New Era, Equally
I do not wish to bow my head in the cold air I do not believe in a clasping of hands Were the hands nearest and warmest In conjunction with my own To be deemed by the speaker a sin This clasping No I worked for this new era, equally It was born of all of our dreams and late nights Early mornings in cold or heat I worked for this new era, equally The channeling of voice to the power of my God is...

Meeting Michelle/Continuing That Which Is...
On the field of Invesco I met a number of interesting people, some already notable, others not known at all. As previously mentioned, the roped off, Secret Service covered area around the stage was a mix of political VIPs, news media VIPS, selected activists and five dollar first time donors to the campaign. A fitting and lively mix.
A few moments before the round of speeches which led to...

If I’m not mistaken, Hillary Clinton rocked the house last night.

Tomorrow Night's Speech (OMG)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After a day of being told cryptic and expectant comments from Obama staffers in re: to my credentials for tomorrow night’s speech, I was just informed that I’ve somehow been selected to sit on the field itself, up by the podium, with a select group of supporters.
I’m dying!!!!!
Dying!!!!!!
Dying.
In Which Sean Penn Ruins My Future Viewing of Milk...
Hi folks. In case you missed this fact somehow: I am a lesbian. Hello. Also? I support this thing called Equality! That includes Marriage Equality! Maybe you also missed it, but last weekend I was in SF for the wedding of some very dear friends. I go so far as to have even written my grad school thesis around the media messaging bit of marriage equality, and I worked in the MA State House...
A Quick Note
I was totally caught up last night, and so didn’t even remember to blog about it. The HRC Rock to Win concert with Rufus Wainwright, Cyndi Lauper and Melissa Ethridge was, predictably, quite incredible. I watched Hillary’s speech in the room of the gays, with Rufus standing there in his fringe USA flag shirt.
All the musicians were a good time, although the audience talked way too much and too...
A Post I Wrote Before Clinton's Speech, but didn't...
A story in which Hillary Clinton walks right by me, hours before she is to give her big convention speech, and Chelsea gives me that look like - “hey, weren’t we once at a big gay party with some former-mormon former-stripper talking about how we share all the same circles of bffs?!” - but before I could confirm, yes, yes indeed we have been there and done that, they were whisked into the service...
A Day For All Girls From The South Side of Chicago...
A little bit of sentimentality amongst all the politics. A bit of a ramble, but working out something that struck me today….
I keep calling this convention something of a camp reunion. You cannot stand on a street corner for more than a few minutes without running into someone you know. Often, at least for me, that someone is someone I adore, and that run in leads to a lot of yelping and...
As Michelle's Brother Spoke To Intro Her
My friend leaned in and commented:
“What’s so amazing is that a year and a half ago, these folks were just normal people; not raised thinking they would give such speeches. They are still learning to use teleprompters. It’s just the force of who they are and their stories that have brought them here.”
In addition to just being true, there’s something so poignant, or important, or moving,...
Things I Learned: Day One of the DNC
1. Some things about all conventions are the same
2. This convention is very different
3. My feet will hurt and I will get blisters, no matter what
4. There is no internet in the general area of the Convention Center, but I can still blog photos from my phone
5. I love Michelle Obama even more than I knew I did, and I already knew that I did
