A Quick Note
I was totally caught up last night, and so didn’t even remember to blog about it. The HRC Rock to Win concert with Rufus Wainwright, Cyndi Lauper and Melissa Ethridge was, predictably, quite incredible. I watched Hillary’s speech in the room of the gays, with Rufus standing there in his fringe USA flag shirt.
All the musicians were a good time, although the audience talked way too much and too loudly during Rufus.
Rufus played a song he had written for Brokeback Mountain, which I somehow don’t remember hearing before, and the man was clear on the way to slaying many of us in the audience.
At one point he sat down at his piano and told everyone to shut up and listen, because he was playing a song about all of us. And then he played, Going To A Town.
(Sidenote to the DNC: Dude. Convention. You just gonna keep me crying?! What up with that?)
When I was in Iowa for Obama in the winter, door knocking in freezing temperatures, I would play that song often in our rented Chevy. It was inspiration to keep walking the icy streets and getting people to make history by caucusing for Obama in the numbers they did.
Also? I just love Rufus Wainwright. It was a great show. The Gays watching Hillry together was also something of a good time/sociological study.
Okay. I’m off to go do some fun things. Updates and documentation of what those fun thing are to be posted shortly!
